SCRRApp – Rubbish and Recycling App
To assist residents with the new kerbside collections the Shire has developed an app that makes it possible for you to:
• get reminders about bin night
• view and download your collection calendar
• check what goes in each bin, and
• receive notifications when there is a change to the
service like a broken truck, code red fire days, or an extra collection. To learn more visit the Shire’s website (Property/SCRRApp), or download it now from the iTunes and Google Play app stores.
RACV Know a dangerous regional road
The RACV is conducting research into Victoria’s most dangerous regional roads. They are asking for our assistance to identify the most dangerous parts of the regional road network so that they can better advocate for improved safety for all Victorians. They have developed an interactive My Country Road map which may be accessed by googling survey Victoria’s dangerous roads.
Having Your Say
Thank you to those residents who filled in the online survey, commented directly, shared and image and/or registered to join the thirty-five member Community Panel, formed to present recommendations to the Council. Your views will help shape the Four and Ten Year Council Plans, to be adopted later in the year.
The 150th anniversary of the naming of Lorne – The illumination of the Swing Bridge, as a fitting way to commemorate the anniversary, was the first preference of the 120 entries received. Final approval for this option will take some time, as the Council will need to survey the residents immediately affected and liaise with CORCAPA, the controlling authority. My thanks to Peter Spring who conducted the survey on SurveyMonkey.
Funding Grants for Local Artists
The Council is announcing the opening of Arts Development seed funding, available to all local artists, to promote innovative outdoor community events and activities that help us celebrate our community in a COVID-safe way.
The seed funding encourages collaborations between Surf Coast artists, local businesses, schools and community groups, with grants of up to $5,000 available. Applications are open in March: go to www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au and search “arts seed fund”, or you can email hgaffney@ surfcoast.vic.gov.au to discuss your ideas.
Lorne RSL Sub-Branch
Unfortunately, due to the lockdown in February the AGM of the Lorne Sub-Branch was postponed. This very important meeting, to elect a new committee after the retirement of several members who have given long-service to the RSL, will now be held on Thursday March 4th at 3.00 pm at the Lorne Hotel. The AGM is critical to ensure that the RSL subbranch continues in our town and that importantly it remains relevant to future generations.
If you cannot attend, I encourage you to support the work of the sub-branch by becoming a member. Annual membership is $25.00, to make your payment you may contact treasurer Clive Goldsworthy – clive.goldsworthy@gmail.com or 0437 910 472 for the details.
