POYNTON TRIBUTE
More than 500 people from Lorne and the Surf Coast surfing community on a late Sunday morning attended a traditional surfing farewell to well- known identity Bryan Poynton on the town’s foreshore recently.
Surfers with their boards upright formed a guard of honour while Bryan’s ashes were carried to the water’s edge.
Paddling out a short distance, the surfers on their boards bid a final farewell by forming a circle as the ashes were scattered into the waves.
An alcohol-free BBQ was then held on the foreshore. Bryan was well-known on the Surf Coast for his artistic wood work and poetry; as a surfer, he pioneered many of the now- popular areas around Bell’s Beach and along the coast to Lorne and beyond.
With thanks to Jonn Stewart for the fabulous pictures taken from his ‘eye in the sky’.
