The Lorne Independent featured an amazing flooding of the Erskine River on January 22nd. After a nervous week fearing fires, the heavens opened on one mountain in the Otways and within hours all the rivers fed from there became ferocious torrents carrying years of debris before them. - an image captured by local photographer Janet Goud
Giants Live Still In The Otways
Recently Landcare in Apollo Bay took a group of interested people on an exciting trip to see some well hidden and forgotten giants still growing in the Otways. Mountain Ash trees are the second-tallest in the world, surpassed only by the coastal Redwoods of the USA. Found exclusively in Victoria and Tasmania, they can reach heights of 80–100 metres. A truly precious part of our landscape.

T37 RC model yachts are built from kits at the Lorne Mens Shed and sailed on the Erskine River. By David Lawler.
The winds on the infamous Erskine River can be quite treacherous for the T37 RC (radio controlled) yachts. Winds can vary from being in the doldrums to the roaring forties. Seasoned yachties battle these conditions with incredible skill. Well, luck can also help.
